HC Deb 04 June 1954 vol 528 c1599
Mr. John Edwards

A number of constituents, wishing to exercise their traditional rights to petition this honourable House, have asked me, as their Member, to present a petition on their behalf, which I accordingly do, as follows: Your petitioners humbly pray that your honourable House may be pleased to lower the qualifying age for contributory pensions for spinsters from 60 years to 58 on an optional retirement basis.

The petition, for which the Brighouse branch of the National Spinsters' Pensions Association is responsible, bears about 2,000 signatures, and concludes with these words: And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray, etc.

To lie upon the Table.

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That this House do now adjourn."—[Mr. Heath.]
