HC Deb 03 June 1954 vol 528 cc1455-6
52. Mr. Langford-Holt

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will consider the use of a helicopter for the study of traffic problems in the London area.

The Secretary of State for the Home Department (Sir David Maxwell Fyfe)

The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis is not unmindful of the possibility that in certain circumstances a machine of this kind might be of value to the police, but he has doubts whether it would be useful for the particular purpose referred to by my hon. Friend.

Mr. Langford-Holt

May I take it from that answer that my right hon. and learned Friend has well in mind the possibility of using such a vehicle for this and other purposes for which it would, no doubt, be of use?

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I think that "well in mind" would be an optimistic interpretation of my answer.

Mr. Wyatt

Does the Minister think that his Department stands any chance of getting a licence from the Ministry of Transport to use a helicopter if it wanted to do so?
