HC Deb 03 June 1954 vol 528 c1428
7. Mr. Holt

asked the President of the Board of Trade what quotas, import licences and import duties are in force in relation to the importation into the United Kingdom of helicopters from European or North American countries.

The Minister of State, Board of Trade (Mr. Heathcoat Amory)

Helicopters may be imported under open general licence from Western European countries; separate licences are required for imports from the dollar area. The import duty is 20 per cent. ad valorem, except that Commonwealth machines which qualify for Imperial Preference would be admitted duty free.

Mr. Holt

Can the Minister say what was the value of imports in 1953 from European or North American countries?

Mr. Amory

I am afraid I have not got that information here. I did not know that the hon. Gentleman wanted to know the value of last year's imports Perhaps he will put down a Question.
