HC Deb 02 June 1954 vol 528 c1271
34. Mr. Callaghan

asked the Minister of Food what plans he has for the future management of the modern cold storage plant at Cardiff Docks; and if he will give an assurance that it will continue to be operated on a commercial basis.

Dr. Hill

I cannot yet add to the reply given to him by my right hon. and gallant Friend on 17th May, except to say that the discussions with the industry are to open on 11th June.

Mr. Callaghan

Does the Minister realise that the anxiety in Cardiff is a result of the fact that the Ministry will be handing over the purchase of meat and other products, and in the course of his discussions will he ask the meat trade to give an assurance that it will continue to use this cold store, as his Department has done?

Dr. Hill

As the hon. Gentleman knows, at his suggestion there have been discussions, which are still going on, about the problem, and it will also be covered by the general discussions which are to open on 11th June.
