HC Deb 01 June 1954 vol 528 c1060
13. Mrs. Mann

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, in view of the shortage of chest surgeons in Lanarkshire, he will consider raising the status of senior hospital medical officers who are Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

Commander Galbraith

No, Sir. The status of senior hospital medical officers was recently reviewed by a professional committee, who had before them full information about the qualifications and experience of individuals. In any event the shortage of chest surgeons could not be reduced by raising the status of particular officers already engaged in the hospital service.
