HC Deb 01 June 1954 vol 528 c1082
55. Mr. G. Longden

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in order to encourage house ownership, he will abolish or reduce the Stamp Duty on conveyances of property up to £2,500 in value.

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. John Boyd-Carpenter)

I regret that my right hon. Friend cannot adopt my hon. Friend's suggestion. I would remind him that, following the concessions my right hon. Friend introduced in 1952, conveyances on sale of property other than stocks and securities already enjoy preferential treatment for Stamp Duty purposes where the price does not exceed £3,450.
