§ 48. Mr. Stewardasked the Prime Minister whether he will reconsider calling a Commonwealth conference to co-ordinate policy for the production of uranium, research and the use of atomic energy in industrial processes.
§ The Prime MinisterNo, Sir. I see no reason to disturb the current arrangements, outlined by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply in his reply to the hon. Member for Coventry, North (Mr. Edelman) on 17th November last, which are working satisfactorily.
§ Mr. StewardWould the Prime Minister agree that it would be necessary in the future to set up a permanent Commonwealth standing committee to work with the United States and other free countries in the peaceful development of this new force?
§ The Prime MinisterIt may well be that something of that kind will eventuate, particularly when we consider how the importance of this subject grows from year to year and that the close connection of the Commonwealth is also strengthened.
