12. Mr. Philips Priceasked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can now state what further steps are being taken by his Department for the progeny testing of boars and generally for the improvement of the type of pig most required for the bacon factories and the pork market.
§ Sir T. DugdaleI am still unable to add to the reply I gave to the hon. Member on 25th February and to paragraph 26 of the 1954 Annual Review White Paper on the subject of progeny testing. I expect, however, a start to be made in September with a scheme for the recording of pigs in England and Wales. Details will be announced very shortly.
Mr. PriceWill the Minister bear in mind that this is a very important matter if we are to reduce the cost of bacon imported into this country?
§ Sir T. DugdaleI have that point in mind.
