HC Deb 01 July 1954 vol 529 cc1571-2
Mr. Joynson-Hicks

I beg to move, in page 23, line 38, to leave out from "the," to "the," in line 39, and to insert: avoidance of bodily injury being caused to person, by reason of. This Amendment is moved in response to a request made to my right hon. Friend during the Committee stage, when my right hon. Friend gave an assurance that he would try to find a form of words which generalised what was in the Bill before, in regard to the safety of persons carried in or on vehicles and employed in connection with the transport system.

We have provided that the transport rules are concerned with the safety of any person who might suffer injury through the running of a vehicle. We think that that generalises the matter and widens the scope of the cover which was given. We believe it does so to the satisfaction of those hon. Members who asked that the matter should be dealt with.

Amendment agreed to.

Further Amendments made: In page 24, line 35, after "road." insert "in the mine."

In page 25, line 2, leave out "in the mine." and insert "therein."

In line 6, leave out from "as," to "that," in line 7, and insert "are appropriate for securing."

In line 14, leave out from the first "to," to "that," and insert "secure."

In line 26, leave out from notice to "stating," in line 28.

In line 36, at end, insert: The provisions of Part XV of this Act with respect to references upon notices served by inspectors shall apply to a notice served under this subsection."—[Mr. Joynson-Hicks.]
