§ 30. Mr. Woodburnasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware that the River Forth is polluted to such an extent that it causes destruction to many salmon; and how soon this problem is likely to be tackled.
The Joint Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Commander T. D. Galbraith)I am aware that the pollution of the Forth presents a serious problem. The question will be one for the Forth River Purification Board which my right hon. Friend has recently established and which I hope will be functioning within the next few months.
§ Mr. WoodburnIs the Minister aware that the Forth has been recently described by one of the officials as a sink of filth, and that it would be much easier to preserve the fish by getting rid of the pollution than by having the vendetta against a few fishermen which seems to be pursued by the Forth River Purification Board?
