HC Deb 22 February 1954 vol 524 c11
21. Mr. E. Fletcher

asked the Attorney- General when the Government intend to introduce the scheme for providing free legal advice.

22. Brigadier Medlicott

asked the Attorney-General if he will now indicate the date by which it is proposed to inaugurate the scheme for the provision of free legal advice to persons of limited means.

The Attorney-General (Sir Lionel Heald)

I regret that I am not yet in a position to make a statement.

Mr. Fletcher

Can the Attorney-General tell us when he hopes to be able to make a statement, bearing in mind the great demand for this service, that its introduction is long overdue, and that its introduction, because of the facilities it affords, would result in a reduction in the number of actions now legally aided?

The Attorney-General

I will see that the hon. Member's views are conveyed to the appropriate quarter.
