Mr. Doddsasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation the total collected in 1953 in respect of chargesmade to cover expenses of foreigners detained at London Airport at the request of the immigration officer, pending their enforced return to the countries from which they came; and what was the number of foreigners involved.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydIn 1953, 28 foreigners were held in detention quarters at London Airport before being flown out of the country. Twelve different airlines were concerned with these detentions, and I regret that I do not know how much they collected.
§ 3. Mr. Doddsasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what charges are made by his Department to airline companies using the detention block for accommodating passengers 1146 arriving at London Airport who are ordered to leave the country.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydCharges are made by my Department to airline companies at the rate of 15s. per night per passenger for the use of the accommodation in the detention block at London Airport. If, exceptionally, my Department provides an escort or guard at the request of the immigration officer, the normal charge of 8s. per hour is made to the airline company.
