asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation when he expects that the new by-pass round the north of Bristol will be in operation.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I was very glad to be able to inform the Gloucestershire County Council that this important road project should proceed. It will take about four years to finish.

Sir R. Perkins: Can my right hon. Friend say when it will start?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I have given full authority and, so far as I am concerned, I think there is little more I can do. There is a great deal of preliminary work which has to be done.

May I ask whether the bridge over the Severn will be constructed at the same time?
