HC Deb 15 December 1954 vol 535 c1747
37. Mr. Monslow

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many Mau Mau adherents in Kenya who have surrendered have afterwards been tried on a capital or other charge.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

None, Sir.

Mr. Monslow

Does not the right hon. Gentleman agree that if there are none the death penalty should be removed, and we might get further surrenders?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

That is a very different matter, but I do hope that the hon. Member will give wide publicity to the fact that none has been tried on a capital or other charge.
