§ 5. Mr. Pageasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what towns are affected by his proposed sale of temporary prefabricated houses; how many such houses are to be sold in each of these towns; and if he will give an assurance that he will not sell any of these houses until he has been assured by the local authority concerned that the occupants have been satisfactorily re-housed.
§ Mr. DeedesForty-one local authorities have said that they may want some of their temporary houses removed during 1955. Precise figures are not yet available, though the total amounts probably to about 2,000. Only vacant houses will be offered for sale.
§ Mr. PageIs my hon. Friend aware that, provided it is seen that those who are evicted are given alternative accommodation, it will give great satisfaction to the country that the Government's housing programme has progressed so far as to make possible a start on replacing these temporary dwellings by permanent dwellings?
§ Mr. DeedesThe question of alternative accommodation, as my hon. Friend no doubt realises, is primarily a matter for the local authorities.
