29. Mr. J. T. Hall

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government when he expects to be able to pay the compensation due under the Town and Country Planning Act, 1947, for land compulsorily purchased by local authorities.

Mr. Sandys

The Central Land Board will start making payments as soon as possible after 1st January.

Mr. Hall

Is the Minister aware that the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer promised that this money would be paid this year, and that many people are disappointed because it has not been paid?

Mr. Sandys

There is not an awfully long time between now and 1st January.
