HC Deb 13 December 1954 vol 535 cc1377-8
46. Mr. Sylvester

asked the Minister of Health whether he will increase the allocation to the Leeds Regional Hospital Board so as to enable the hospital facilities under the Pontefract and Castleford Management Committee, especially in Castleford, to be extended, as requested by the hon. Member for Pontefract and the Castleford Urban District Council.

Mr. Iain Macleod

No, sir, regional board's ordinary projects are not nominated by me.

Mr. Sylvester

Is the Minister aware that, in the area covered by this Management Commitee, there is already a shortage of over 200 beds, and that unless the regional hospital board receive an increased allocation, it looks to me as if in a number of areas there will be no further development of hospitals?

Mr. Macleod

As the hon. Gentleman knows, Pontefract is in a deficient area, but if I make an extra allocation to the board, it does not follow that the board will give it to Pontefract.
