§ Mr. HughesIs the Foreign Secretary aware that at a meeting in New York of the English-Speaking Union and the Foreign Policy Association, reported in the "Scotsman" on 2nd December, Field Marshal Montgomery called for a global organisation of the non-Communist world to direct political and military strategy? Does the Foreign Secretary repudiate Field Marshal Montgomery, and will he tell us how far Field Marshal Montgomery is authorised to explain British foreign policy in the United States of America?
§ Sir A. EdenField Marshal Montgomery is, of course, not a servant of Her Majesty's Government. He is a servant of N.A.T.O. He is perfectly entitled to express his opinion, as are other people in a world which is still free, despite the hon. Gentleman.
§ Mr. HughesIn view of the Foreign Secretary's last reference, and the unsatisfactory and evasive nature of his answer, I give notice that I shall call the attention of the House to the subject on the Adjournment on the first possible occasion.
