HC Deb 07 December 1954 vol 535 c754
14. Mr. Grimond

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the current total cost of British overseas news and information services.

Mr. H. Brooke

About £10¼ million.

Mr. Grimond

Having regard to the immense good which the services are doing and the amount of money which is expended in other ways, cannot the Treasury provide some slight increase to enable the services to be maintained in certain countries where they are liable to be cut?

Mr. Brooke

The Foreign Secretary recently made a statement on the subject, and I have nothing to add to what he said.
