HC Deb 07 December 1954 vol 535 cc782-3
59. Commander Scott-Miller

asked the Minister of Labour how many people, male and female, in the borough of King's Lynn, have been unemployed for a period of more than six months at the latest convenient date and how these figures compare with those in 1953 and in 1951.

Mr. Watkinson

Twenty-nine males and two females at 13th September, 1954. compared with 22 males and four females at 14th September, 1953, and 20 males and four females at 17th September. 1951.

Commander Scott-Miller

I thank my hon. Friend for these very satisfactory figures. In the event of a further industry coming to the town, can he tell me whether these unemployed people will be of the type which can be absorbed into, say, a light industry?

Mr. Watkinson

It is difficult to give an immediate reply to that question, but if my hon. Friend wishes to discuss it with me I shall be only too pleased.
