§ 61. Mr. Sorensenasked the Minister of Labour what statistics are kept by his Department showing the nationality of applicants at employment exchanges.
§ Mr. WatkinsonMy Department keeps no statistics of this kind.
§ Mr. SorensenWill the hon. Gentleman look at the matter again, especially as it might prove enlightening with regard to many social problems? Will he consider it again with a view to securing these statistics?
§ Mr. WatkinsonWe are in the hands of the House in this matter. We have not kept these statistics—as I have explained on a previous occasion—because we do not differentiate between coloured workers and others in the work of the employment exchanges. On the other hand, it would be possible—although I cannot commit myself—to take a special count if it were felt that the information were necessary at the moment.
