HC Deb 06 December 1954 vol 535 c599
44. Mr. Reeves

asked the Minister of Food whether he will instruct the United Kingdom representative at the present session of the General Assembly of the United Nations to support the proposal to set up a world food reserve with the object of securing alleviation of world food shortages so as to secure a more satisfactory distribution of food.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food (Dr. Charles Hill)

My right hon. and gallant Friend understands that a further proposal to set up a world food reserve will be submitted to the present session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, but until details are available Her Majesty's Government's attitude cannot be determined.

Mr. Reeves

Are the Government in favour of the reserve in principle?

Dr. Hill

We have not yet received the terms of the resolution which, we understand, the Costa Rican Government are to move, and until that is done I cannot comment.
