§ 27. Mr. George Craddockasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if, in view of the decision of the Disarmament Commission to set up a subcommittee immediately to study the whole question of atomic weapons, he will take steps to see that there are appointed to this committee British representatives of the first rank together with the necessary scientists and experts so that the United Kingdom may be in a position to take the initiative with positive proposals and thus ensure that definite progress is made within the next few months.
§ The Prime MinisterMy right hon. and learned Friend the Minister of State has been appointed to lead the British delegation. In addition to advisers from the Foreign Office, he will be assisted by representatives from the Ministry of Defence and the Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwell.
§ Mr. CraddockWhilst thanking the Prime Minister for his reply, may I ask if he agrees that the future of mankind may be involved in the proper approach to this matter? Therefore, will he personally use all his great abilities to that noble end?
§ The Prime MinisterYes, Sir, I am fully and properly worried about the future of mankind.
