HC Deb 21 October 1953 vol 518 cc1959-60
18. Mrs. White

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what charges are to be made in the courts against the Ministers recently dismissed in British Guiana.

Mr. Lyttelton

The responsibility for deciding whether in any particular case criminal proceedings should be taken in British Guiana rests with the Attorney-General of the Colony.

Mr. Brockway

If there are such charges as are stated in the White Paper, why were these men not charged long ago?

Mr. Lyttelton

I repeat that the responsibility for deciding whether charges should be preferred rests with the Attorney-General.
