asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what experiments his Department has conducted to ascertain the proportion of non-combustible materials in the various types of coal now being produced; and how these proportions compare with those prevalent in 1938.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

This analysis is a matter for the National Coal Board, and I have arranged for my hon. Friend to be given information on current figures. I am told, however, that figures for 1938 are not available.

Mr. Longden

Is my right hon. Friend not apprehensive lest the Coal Board and/or its agents may be liable under the Merchandise Marks Act, 1953, for selling goods not fit for their purpose?

Mr. Lloyd

That, I think, is very much a matter of day to day administration.
