29. Mr. Noel-Baker

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many of the Chinese Nationalist troops in Burma have been evacuated up to the latest convenient date in accordance with the resolution of the United Nations.

Mr. Eden

Up to 27th November the numbers evacuated amounted to approximately 1,300.

Mr. Noel-Baker

Could the right hon. Gentleman say how many were disabled and were women and children and other non-effectives? Further, does he think that this is a serious effort to carry out the Assembly's resolution?

Mr. Eden

I could not, without notice, say how many were non-effectives. I do not think the proportion is large—about 200 non-effectives out of 1,300. It is a good start, and we have got to keep the flow moving if we can.

How many have been left behind, and how soon are they to be shifted?

Mr. Eden

I cannot tell how many have been left behind, because I am not there to count, but we want the flow to continue moving.
