HC Deb 16 November 1953 vol 520 c1400
52. Mr. Gower

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what steps he will take to ensure that the future development of the provision of electricity in Wales shall be on a scale comparable with its provision in England and other parts of the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

I am informed that this is indeed the intention of the electricity boards.

Mr. Gower

While I thank the Minister for that assurance, may I ask him whether he is aware that there is some disappointment in Wales that the progress with rural electricity has been on a rather lower scale than in many other areas of the Electricity Board? Can he say whether there is reason to anticipate a better performance in the future?

Mr. Lloyd

My hon. Friend may be aware that the British Electricity Authority have improved the main transmission lines. We hope that that will provide a better performance, which, indeed, is already being given.
