§ 7. Mr. Nabarroasked the Minister of Labour what steps he is taking to bring up to date the Wood-Working Machinery Regulations which were last revised nearly 30 years ago; and whether he will introduce legislation suitably to revise the existing factories statutes.
§ Mr. WatkinsonI am not aware of any ground for amendment of these Regulations. But if my hon. Friend has any such ground in mind, I will be pleased to consider it.
§ Mr. NabarroThese Regulations were made 30 years ago. Is my hon. Friend aware that in that period of three decades, many new types of woodworking machinery have been invented and brought into widespread use and it is, therefore, urgently necessary to overhaul them in the light of 1953 conditions?
§ Mr. WatkinsonSection 14 of the Factories Act, 1937, still applies, but again, if my hon. Friend has any particular point in mind, we should be delighted to consider it.
§ Mr. IsaacsHas the Minister had any complaint from any of the unions representing the workers in this industry about the inefficiency of the Regulations?
§ Mr. WatkinsonNo, Sir.
