§ 4. Mr. McLeavyasked the Minister of Labour if he is now in a position to report upon the financial position of Remploy, Limited; and how far their Bradford factory is likely in the near future to increase its intake of disabled workers.
§ Mr. WatkinsonRemploy, Limited, are publishing their annual report for the year ended 31st March, 1953, giving an income and expenditure account and the balance sheet, on 25th November; they are not contemplating any increase at the Bradford factory in the immediate future.
§ Mr. McLeavyIs the Minister aware of the large number of disabled people in Bradford waiting at the employment exchange for an opportunity of employment? Will his Department make a special inquiry into the position at Bradford with a view to increasing the intake of this factory?
§ Mr. WatkinsonWe do not need to do that, because I can give the answer now. The difficulty is that there has been a shortage of orders in this Remploy factory, which we are trying to overcome. If we can overcome it, as we hope, in the near future, we shall be able to take on more people.
