§ 22. Mr. Grimondasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many of the piers listed as essential in the White Paper on Highland Development remain to be built; and when it is expected that the programme will be completed.
§ Mr. J. StuartThe list referred to contained proposals for 11 new works. Of these, two have been completed; one is in progress; grants have been offered or work approved in principle for five; two are under consideration; and no proposals have been received from the local authority concerned in respect of the one remaining. I cannot say when all these works will be completed, but all possible speed will be made.
§ Mr. GrimondCan the Secretary of State do anything further to speed up the procedure? Does he not agree that there is a very long time between the start of the initial procedure and the time that the work can begin?
§ Mr. StuartI will look into it.
