HC Deb 10 November 1953 vol 520 c766
36. Mr. Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when last he had consultation with members of the Glenrothes Development Corporation on the need for new industry in the new town; and when he proposes to have further consultations.

Mr. J. Stuart

Regular consultations take place between my Department and the Development Corporation on this and other matters and my noble Friend the Minister of State is having a further meeting with the chairman of the Corporation on 12th November.

Mr. Hamilton

Is the Secretary of State fully cognizant of all the peculiar difficulties in attracting new industry to this area? In the circumstances, will he consult further with the President of the Board of Trade to see what more can be done to attract new industry to this rapidly developing mining area?

Mr. Stuart

I am aware of the hon. Member's very natural anxiety on the subject and I am glad to say that we have had a few tentative inquiries recently about the establishment of new industry in the area. The President of the Board of Trade and I will certainly do all we can to encourage this development.
