HC Deb 09 November 1953 vol 520 cc583-4
24. Mrs. Mann

asked the Minister of Food to what extent he has been receiving complaints regarding eggs which are unfit for human consumption; and what arrangements he has made for the buyer of these to demand replacement.

Major Lloyd George

I am no longer responsible for the distribution of eggs. Consumers are free to buy where they please, and the replacement of bad eggs is entirely a matter for settlement between the buyer and the seller.

Mrs. Mann

If a buyer who buys butcher's meat which is unfit for human consumption can take it back, why cannot the buyer of bad eggs take the eggs back?

Major Lloyd George

She can. I think the hon. Lady will find that the wholesalers are quite prepared to meet the retailers. I must say to the hon. Lady again that she is not tied to one retailer at the present time, and that if she gets bad eggs from one she can go to another.

Mrs. Mann

Is the right hon. and gallant Gentleman aware that since the Tory Government came in the hens have been laying nothing but bad eggs?
