HC Deb 21 May 1953 vol 515 cc2232-3
10. Mr. Gower

asked the Minister of Health if he will appoint a Welsh representative to the committee of inquiry into the National Health Service under the chairmanship of Mr. Guillebaud.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I appreciate my hon. Friend's point, but I do not think it desirable to increase the size of the Committee, which has been intentionally kept small and has not been appointed on a representative basis. It is, of course, open to Welsh organisations and individuals to submit evidence to the Committee.

Mr. Gower

Is my right hon. Friend aware that as long as Welsh matters are largely considered in conjunction with English matters, we in Wales consider that Welsh views should be represented at all levels?

Mr. G. Thomas

Is the Minister aware that when these matters are not specifically Welsh or English but appertain purely to finance or administration, a great proportion of the Welsh people think that there is a lot of poppycock about the demands for Welsh people on committees, and that the Welsh people are much more broadminded than the Question would seem to indicate?
