36. Air Commodore Harveyasked the President of the Board of Trade how many personnel in his Department are working for the Monopolies Commission; and what accommodation has been made available as offices for them.
§ The President of the Board of Trade (Mr. Peter Thorneycroft)Twenty-five members of the staff of the Board of Trade are at present seconded to the Monopolies Commission. They work in the offices provided for the Commission in Cornwall Terrace.
Air Commodore HarveyDoes not my right hon. Friend agree that eight years after the war civil servants ought not to be working in the homes of people who urgently want to go back to live in them? Does not he agree that this is not in keeping with Conservative policy? We had great sympathy with him when he took on this legacy from the Labour Government. Will he put the matter right?
§ Mr. ThorneycroftThose questions should be addressed to the Minister of Works.
§ Mr. RankinDoes not the right hon. Gentleman agree that the number employed in this work, if it is to be done successfully, is far too small?
