HC Deb 21 May 1953 vol 515 cc2231-2
8. Mrs. White

asked the Minister of Health how many hospitals under the National Health Service provide treatment for alcoholism.

Mr. Iain Macleod

Treatment for alcoholism is provided mainly in psychiatric departments, which are available in or near most hospital centres.

Mrs. White

Is the right hon. Gentleman satisfied that suitable treatment, including treatment with apomorphine or other methods, is available wherever it is required? Has he made any recent investigation into this matter?

Mr. Macleod

I have made no recent investigation, but I have no evidence to lead me to the conclusion that treatment is in any way inadequate.
