§ 37. Mr. Rentonasked the Minister of Transport how many prosecutions took place in Huntingdonshire during 1952 and in January, February, March and April, 1953, respectively, for offences by goods vehicles against Section 19 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, and Section 16 of the Road and Rail Traffic Act, 1933.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydDuring 1952 the licensing authority undertook four prosecutions in Huntingdonshire under Section 19 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, and four under Section 16 of the Road and Rail Traffic Act, 1933. During the four months ended April, 1953, the only prosecutions taken under these sections were 11 under Section 16, during the month of January.
§ Mr. RentonIs my right hon. Friend aware that the Great North Road passes through his county for about 30 miles, and has a very high density of traffic? Is not the number of prosecutions very strangely small? Will he have the administration of the law somewhat tightened up?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydI do not think that that would be a reasonable conclusion from the figures which I have given. They might also show a growing sense of care on the part of drivers.
