HC Deb 13 May 1953 vol 515 cc1222-3
6. Mr. Wigg

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what arrangements are being made for leave to be granted to the crews of ships concentrating for the Coronation Review, particularly in cases where ships have been based in remote ports.

Commander Noble

Arrangements have been made for the ships' companies of ships returning from foreign service to be given seven days' leave in the United Kingdom before the Naval Review.

Mr. Wigg

Would the hon. and gallant Gentleman take into account the fact that many of the ships concentrating in Portsmouth will have members of crews who could live ashore whilst the ships are there? Will he take that into account and provide special facilities, particularly where families have been separated for considerable periods?

Commander Noble

Yes, that certainly will be given every consideration, and I am quite sure that as much leave as possible will be given while the ships are in port.
