HC Deb 13 May 1953 vol 515 c1249
45. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Prime Minister if, in view of the need for greater understanding between this country and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, he will instruct our Ambassador at Moscow to make the proposal that there should be an interchange of Parliamentary delegations.

The Prime Minister (Sir Winston Churchill)

I do not wish to add at the moment to what I have already said about relations and contacts between this country and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Mr. Hughes

Does not the Prime Minister agree that it would be helpful if there were greater contact between public representatives from the Soviet Union coming here to understand what is going on and similar visits paid there by people in this country? Would it not help to create a greater spirit of understanding?

The Prime Minister

Perhaps the hon. Gentleman will put another Question on the Paper when he returns from Scotland after the Coronation.
