HC Deb 12 May 1953 vol 515 c1044
31. Sir G. Lloyd

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury to what extent, to assist in the closer watch that is now being kept on the operation of the paid sick leave scheme in Government establishments, central records are now being kept, so that the total annual cost to the taxpayer can be calculated.

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. John Boyd-Carpenter)

None, Sir. The administrative and clerical cost to the taxpayer could not be justified. But the management of each industrial establishment is aware of the need to watch, in the light of local circumstances, the incidence of sick absence in that establishment.
