HC Deb 11 May 1953 vol 515 cc1005-6

10.2 p.m.

The Minister of Agriculture (Sir Thomas Dugdale)

I beg to move, in page 2, line 14, to leave out "constructions made," and insert: things constructed, improved or repaired. The purpose of this Amendment is to make it abundantly clear that roads may be constructed or improved to meet transport requirements both for bank construction and other work and for maintaining that work. It was not quite clear in the original draft of the Bill that this could be done, and it was to meet a point which was raised in Committee that we drafted this Amendment.

Mr. A. Blenkinsop (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, East)

We are very grateful for this Amendment and (he succeeding Amendment. It meets the point which we raised in Committee, and we think it makes the issue clear in the Bill.

Amendment agreed to.

Further Amendment made: In page 2, line 18, leave out "constructions made," and insert: things constructed, improved or repaired."— [Sir T. Dugdale.]

Clause, as amended, ordered to stand part of the Bill.
