HC Deb 05 May 1953 vol 515 cc205-6
52. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Labour to state to the latest convenient date how many men and women, respectively, in Aberdeen are unemployed; in which trades; and how these figures compare with unemployment in the same trades in Aberdeen during each of the last five years.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mr. Harold Watkinson)

I am having the available information extracted and will write to the hon. and learned Member.

Mr. Hughes

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that normally his figures do not snow the real state of unemployment, because there are many skilled workers who cannot find employment in their own trades who have to go into other trades and would he include those figures?

Mr. Watkinson

We are doing our best to give the hon. and learned Gentleman a very detailed set of figures. If he does not receive what he wants in them and gets in touch with me, I will try to get him some more if I can.
