HC Deb 23 March 1953 vol 513 cc459-60
3. Mr. W. Wells

asked the Minister of Transport how many pedestrian crossings he has authorised within the borough of Walsall.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport (Mr. Gurney Braithwaite)

I understand that the borough council decided on 9th March to vary their scheme of pedestrian crossings so that it will include 14 not controlled by traffic lights. My right hon. Friend will consider this scheme as soon as it is formally submitted.

Mr. Wells

Will the hon. Gentleman bear in mind the anxiety which is felt for proper safety precautions for school children?

Mr. Braithwaite

I understand that at the council meeting on 9th March it was agreed to adopt this scheme. We do not put pedestrian crossings outside schools; adult patrols are the solution to that problem.
