HC Deb 23 March 1953 vol 513 c484
47. Mr. Ian Harvey

asked the Minister of Materials what relaxation of the existing restrictions on the use of newsprint by newspapers will be authorised during the period of Her Majesty's Coronation.

The Minister of Materials (Sir Arthur Salter)

An Order will shortly be laid before the House extending the newsprint rationing period, which begins on 3rd May, from 12 to 16 weeks. During that period full-size l½d. daily newspapers will be allowed to publish in total 30 pages over and above the present maximum, with corresponding increases for other newspapers.

Mr. Harvey

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this will give great satisfaction, not only to newspapers which will have to deal with increased circulations, but also to the many people who will be able to read about this event?
