asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware of the need for rapid development of supplies of electric power in the Federation of Malaya; and what steps are being taken to meet this need.

Yes, Sir. In 1949 the Federation Government set up the Central Electricity Board which, in addition to extending supplies to small towns, has completed and brought into operation the first half of a power station of 80,000 kw. near Kuala Lumpur. Plans for the future include more extensions to the grid and possibly more hydro-electric power stations.
