§ 41. Mr. R. Robinsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what measure of success has been achieved with the experimental cultivation of jute in British Guiana; and whether it is now proposed to produce jute on a commercial basis in the Colony.
§ Mr. LytteltonThe first year's experiments have shown that jute can be grown successfully. Mechanised processing also shows some promise. It is however too early to say yet whether full commercial development is justified. The present trials are continuing.
