May I ask the hon. Gentleman whether any attempt is to be made to make this information available, because it is important to distinguish between investment abroad and in this country for various purposes?

Mr. Maudling

It is very difficult to provide complete information; for example, we have no statistics of the amount of profits ploughed back by American companies operating in this country.
