HC Deb 18 June 1953 vol 516 c1178
38. Mr. Bowden

asked the Minister of Health when regulations will be made prescribing qualifications for medical auxiliaries; and if professional and other bodies concerned have yet been given an opportunity to comment on the outline of these regulations.

Mr. Iain Macleod

An outline of the proposed regulations was sent for comment to the professional and other interested bodies at the beginning of May, and discussions are being arranged with the organisations who have requested them. Until these have taken place, I shall not be able to say when the regulations will be made.

Mr. Bowden

Will the right hon. Gentleman assure the House that the regulations will not permit a lowering in the standard of qualifications required for these auxiliaries?

Mr. Macleod

The very object of the qualification is that the Ministers may be satisfied that high qualifications are maintained in all hospitals.
