HC Deb 16 June 1953 vol 516 c711
7. Mr. McAdden

asked the Minister of Works the cost of the stands erected at Apsley House; how much was received from the sale of tickets for these stands; and what payment was made to the Duke of Wellington.

Sir D. Eccles

The official stands erected in the forecourt of Apsley House cost £12,500. The receipts from the sale of seats amounted to £22,150. Although the garden of Apsley House is vested in the Minister of Works, the Duke of Wellington has the right to occupy and maintain it. A concession was granted to erect stands in this garden. My Department made no payment to the Duke but was paid £6,000 by the concessionaire in respect of its interest.
