HC Deb 09 June 1953 vol 516 cc9-10
17. Mr. Hoy

asked the Minister of Works what steps he is taking to expedite the building of the Scottish National Library.

Sir D. Eccles

Special steps were taken two years ago to make better progress on the new National Library of Scotland building, when the contractors agreed to employ additional labour. The position at present is regarded as satisfactory by the Trustees of the National Library. I will keep the progress of this building under review.

Mr. Hoy

In keeping the matter under review, will the right hon. Gentleman remember that this work was started in pre-war days, and that any further delay would be regarded very unfavourably by the people of Scotland?

Sir D. Eccles

Yes, Sir.
