HC Deb 09 June 1953 vol 516 c3
2. Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government to make a statement on the appointment he has made to fill the vacancy on the Kent Rent Tribunal, giving details of the experience of the new member in tribunal work.

Mr. H. Macmillan

I made the appointment which I considered the most suitable, taking into account all revelant experience and qualifications.

Mr. Dodds

Is the Minister aware of the resentment which is felt at the fact that a retired civil servant without experience of tribunal work has been appointed? How does the right hon. Gentleman explain this away in view of his own letter of 27th February this year asking that more work should be given to reserve members? Why then was not a reserve member with experience appointed to this job?

Mr. Macmillan

I appointed this gentleman to the job because I thought he was the best man to do it.
